AfA #11 – Elfenbeinküste
Von Felix Houphouët-Boigny bis zu Didier Drogba
Das Land der Ivorer war einst afrikanisches Vorzeigemodell und Musterland. Unter dem Nationalhelden Felix Houphouët-Boigny stieg es auf zu großer politischer und wirtschaftlicher Bedeutung, eng verbunden mit der ehemaligen Kolonialmacht Frankreich. Aus dieser Zeit stammt auch der Bau der größten Kathedrale der Welt (s. Foto). Durch die anschließenden Jahre der Bürgerkriege, Spaltung und Armut wurde die Elfenbeinküste schwer in Mitleidenschaft gezogen, seit 2011 geht es aber wieder politisch und wirtschaftlich bergauf. Zusammen mit dem gesamten Land blickt der Afrika für Almans Podcast gespannt auf die Präsidentschaftswahlen 2020.

Ulrike Lechner: Das Verfassungsgericht der Elfenbeinkpste hat bei der Wahl 2010 Laurent Gbagbo als Wahlsieger anerkannt. Ouattara wurde von der ‚unabhängigen‘ Wahlkommission dann als Wahlsieger deklariert, obwohl es im Norden viele Ungereimtheiten gab. Außerdem war Gbagbo bis vor kurzem in Den Haag angeklagt und wurde Anfang des Jahres ohne Prozess freigesprochen wurde, jedoch Belgien nicht verlassen darf. Leider wird in Deutschland oft die französische Version der Nachrichten aus frankophonen Ländern übernommen.
