AfA #12 – Eritrea

Einst gehörte Eritrea zu Äthiopien, doch nach langen und blutigen Kampf erlangte der kleine Staat im Nordosten Afrikas 1993 seine Unabhängigkeit. In dieser krisenreichen Region dominierten auch in der Folgezeit Krieg und Konflikte das junge Land, was schlußendlich auch zum anhaltenden Exodus vieler Eritreer gen Ausland führte.
Aber es gibt nicht nur negatives zu berichten, der seit 25 Jahren schwelende Konflikt mit Äthiopien über die gemeinsame Grenze scheint kurz vor der Beilegung und auch das Zusammenleben von Islam und der Eritreeisch-Orthodoxen Kirche (deren wichtigstes Kloster im Episodenbild) gestaltet sich friedlich.

Der studierte Politikwissenschaftler und Betriebswirt Dr. Aklilu Ghirmai ist zu Gast und gibt einen detaillierten Einblick in die politische Lage im isoliertesten Staat am Roten Meer. Themen sind unter anderem die Rolle der katholischen und orthodoxen Kirchen innerhalb des Landes, die verzwgroße und aktive eritreische Diaspora und zeichnet mögliche Wege aus der misslichen Lage innerhalb des Landes auf.
